Educational Opportunities

Melfred Borzall staff frequently do presentations at Horizontal Directional Drilling conferences and seminars, as well as get involved with local education outreach programs. The company has sponsored internships in Industrial Technology and Graphic Design through the California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo. Engineering students frequently do projects on topics such as Value Engineering and Lean Manufacturing at Melfred Borzall—adding to their knowledge and experience while at the same time improving MB products and processes. Our employees serve on the advisory boards of local engineering and community colleges, as judges for high school welding competitions and as plant tour guides for industrial arts classes.

Environmental Concerns

In an effort to help maintain a clean environment and to reduce dependence on foreign oil, Melfred Borzall installed a Solar Photovoltaic Power System at its Santa Maria plant. This system, installed in 2003, produces 70% of the facility’s electricity from clean, renewable sunlight. At a rated power of 77.7 kW, this array of 648 panels is one of the largest private Solar Power Systems in the United States. The next time you use one of Melfred Borzall’s red tools, remember that it was made using the power of the sun!

Community Involvement

Melfred Borzall also participates in many of the fun activities of its employees and community, including sponsoring local little league, softball and roller hockey teams. During the past year, Melfred Borzall sponsored a high school team that built a robot, which won its division in the national U.S. First robotics competition. Melfred Borzall also helped sponsor an engineering class that planned and executed a low-income housing remodeling project. Several race cars also have the famous Melfred Borzall Directional Dude logo!
